About Owen
Owen was adopted from the Winnipeg Humane Society. Owen was found by a rescue organization in Northern Manitoba with two broken hips at the age of two months old from being hit by a car.
Owen had been staying with a foster in Winnipeg for the last six months while he has had surgeries and recovery. Owen has had FHO on both sides. FHO is short for Femoral Head Ostectomy which is where the head of the femur, what looks like a ball that fits into the hip socket, is removed. The muscles of the leg first hold the femur in place and over time scar tissue will form to create something of a false joint. This gives the dog pain free mobility.
Being young, eight months old at adoption time, there is a lot to learn for Owen, hopefully his big brother Bisquit can help show him some tricks.
How Owen Got His Name
When my dad decided it was time for Bisquit to have a brother, it was decided that in honour of Bisquit's mum that the new dog would be named Gravy. That way there was Bisquit and Gravy! However after finding out I was in foster for six months with the name Owen, dad decided it was best that I keep the name Owen.
Owen's Adoption Story
Dad called the Winnipeg Humane Society about adopting me but was talked out of adopting me during the phone call. Two weeks later dad went to the Humane Society to look at another dog. That dog had just been adopted when the nice adoption people said "Have you heard about Owen?"
Dad told the story of the phone call, and fears were dismissed immediately! Dad came to visit me in my room and I was very scared. Dad had a handful of peanut butter and blueberry treats which were super yummy and even with those I was still very shy. We ended our visit and arranged to come back the next day with Bisquit to see if we would get along.
The next day I met dad and Bisquit outside! We got to go in a big fenced area so I could have my space and so could Bisquit and so could dad. We spent about twenty minutes getting comfortable with each other. It was a good meeting, and then it ended and I had to go back to my room!
My dad had to go make some papers with the adoption people, and that's when my dad found out that my foster had already paid for my adoption fees! My dad was so happy he cried.
